- The Los Angeles Police Department confirms it will purchase 7,000 body cameras for its police officers to increase transparency/accountability.
- The move follows President Obama’s $75m pledge to fund half the cost of 50,000 officer-mounted cameras & is widely endorsed following the August death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in Missouri.
- The LAPD hopes to deploy the first 800 cameras within 6 months.
