Jeremy Clarkson loses contract with the BBC

Following his suspension due to a 'fracas' with a BBC producer, Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been told his contract at the BBC will not be renewed.
Posted by: admin , March 26, 2015
  • Following his suspension on March 10 due to a ‘fracas’ with a BBC producer, Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has now been informed that his contract at the BBC will not be renewed.
  • It seems the ‘fracas’ was the last straw for the BBC, in which Jeremy was accused of having physically attacked BBC producer Oisin Tymon for failing to organise food after filming.
  • BBC director Tony Hall said that this decision was not made lightly, but that “a line had been crossed” and that he could not “condone” what had happened on this occasion (presumably the Oisin Tymon incident).
  • The ‘Oisin’ incident follows numerous recent controversies, such as the apparent licence plate reference to the Falklands War when the Top Gear crew went to Argentina (they were then chased out of the country).
  • The BBC’s decision is expected to divide opinion, given that Jeremy has (despite his frequent missteps) a considerable following, as seen by the fact that more than a million people signed a petition seeking Jeremy’s reinstatement after he was suspended by the BBC.
  • As Top Gear is watched by about 350 million viewers in 170 countries, the BBC, it is reported that the BBC will most likely continue the show with a new host.
