- Northern California was struck by its strongest earthquake in 25 years, with a 6.0-magnitude quake striking 6 miles Southwest of Napa Valley.
- Downtown Napa was reported to have suffered the most, with extensive damage caused to many historic buildings.
- Although it will take time to assess, it is thought the quake was caused by the Franklin Fault – previously thought to be dormant for 1.6 million years!
- Napa Valley is California’s famed wine country.
