Thieves simply wheeled out £60m in gems, cash and other valuables in bins after a brazen jewellery heist where they spent 2 nights drilling through a concrete wall to reach the loot stored in the vault.
Nearly 120 hours of CCTV footage has been pieced together by police to reveal how the thieves broke into the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company to carry out the robbery over the Easter weekend.
It’s believed that one of the robbers may have hidden inside the building in order to let accomplices in at a later stage, or that the thieves had assistance from a worker on the premises, given that there were no apparent signs of a forced entry.
Once inside, the thieves remained inside the premises for about 7 hours, during which they set off an intruder alarm.
However, police decided no response was required – a decision which is now reportedly being investigated.
Although the men left the premises shortly after midnight on Good Friday, they returned late the following evening to complete their work and carry out their haul in the wheelie bins previously brought onto the premises.
Among those thought to be responsible are the Pink Panthers, who have carried out a number of raids internationally in countries such as Japan, France, Monaco and Switzerland.
