Police dog accidentally bites officer instead of suspect

An officer was bitten by his own police dog after it was released during an attempted arrest, and latched onto the first thing it saw!
It’s reported that several police officers were chasing a man who escaped while being handcuffed.
Just as one of the constables tackled the man to the ground, the dog was released – but it went straight for the hapless officer’s leg.
The officer was sent to Dunedin hospital for treatment and discharged on the same day, but has been getting a “bit of stick” from his workmates.
