• Taylor Swift has written an open letter to Apple Music, in such she attacked the company for not paying royalties to artists during the trial period.
• To show she means business, Taylor has withheld consent for Apple to stream her latest album 1989 when it launches later this month.
• In the letter, titled “To Apple, love Taylor”, the songstress acknowledged Apple’s assistance in connecting with her fans and selling her music, but that Apple’s refusal to pay writers, producers and artists royalties during the 3-month trial period is unlike the historically “progressive and generous” company.
• Taylor was at pains to note that this wasn’t about her – as the move is most harmful to those starting out and looking to be rewarded for their hard work.
• Taylor summed up best when she pointed out that we don’t ask Apple for free iPhones, so they shouldn’t ask artists for free music.
• UPDATE: Apple Music has heard Tay Tay’s complaints and agreed to change its policy!
