Precious metal poo mining could make you rich!

Studies carried out by the US Geological Survey found that the levels of precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum in faeces were comparable to those found in some commercial mines.

  • Studies carried out by the US Geological Survey found that the levels of precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum in faeces were comparable to those found in some commercial mines.
  • Based on the findings of this study, it’s been reported that mining all of Britain’s excretions could yield £510 million worth of precious metals a year!
  • Broadly, the metals that find their way into faeces tend to originate from cosmetics, shampoos and jewellery that gets flushed down the toilet.
  • Even some food and drink items contain flakes of gold or silver, which are then consumed and excreted!
  • Scientists say that the removal of precious metals would not only open doors to a lucrative industry, but increase the amount of waste that could be used as fertiliser by removing metals that typically limit its use on fields and forests.
