- Food company Nissin has developed a noise-cancelling fork called Otohiko, which eliminates the slurping sound of eating noodles!
- How does it work? Slurping sounds are detected by a microphone in the fork, which activates a smartphone app to ‘mask’ slurps with the sound of ‘whooshing’ or xylophones.
- Otohiko was developed with the assistance of sound artist Shinya Kiyokawa, with inspiration from TOTO’s Otohime (noise cancelling) toilets, which is also a Japanese invention.
- The fork (which is 4.4cm wide and 15.2cm long) will only be produced if 5,000+ pre-orders are received by mid-December.
- Otohiko is being sold for 14,800 Yen, or $130.
- I’ve linked the promotional video in my bio. What do you think? Good/bad idea?
