- Oscar Pistorius has been found guilty of culpable homicide (ie manslaughter), for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp when he fired at what he thought was an intruder in the bathroom.
- The judge said he acted recklessly by shooting as he did, but that he did not intend to kill Ms Steenkamp. The judge noted that there was not enough evidence to prove he had motive or intent to kill Ms Steenkamp.
- Ms Steenkamp’s relatives were reportedly distressed at the verdict, as single crimes under South African law carry no minimum sentences. Oscar could receive anything from a fine to 15 years’ jail, although it has been speculated that he will only receive a suspended sentence.
- Oscar has been bailed for sentencing on 13 October 2014.
