Couple remarry after husband with Alzheimer’s re-proposes to wife

Heartbreaking, but beautiful. A man suffering from Alzheimer’s proposed to his wife of 34 years after he forgot they were married.
Since being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010, Michael Joyce has suffered from chronic memory loss, disorientation and mood swings.
According to wife Linda, there was “something different” about Michael when he woke up one night.
She was right. Teary-eyed, Michael asked Linda to marry him. Naturally, Linda said yes but the most remarkable thing was that he remembered the next morning (which is rare), and every day until the wedding that weekend.
The pair married at Hamilton Lake (150km south of Auckland, NZ) with 15 family members and friends.
Music was played from Forrest Gump (which Michael watches every day), and the newlyweds danced to ‘Flowers of Scotland’ which was played on the bagpipes (the pair were born in Scotland).
The intimate ceremony was made possible by members of the community, who offered their services for free. Photos and video from the ceremony are linked here.
