Did North Korea hack Sony?

Further evidence points to North Korea being behind the hack of Sony last week!
Posted by: admin , December 7, 2014
  • More information has emerged pointing to hackers from North Korea being responsible for last week’s cyber attack on Sony.
  • Analysis of the malware used indicates the Korean language was used. Furthermore, US security company Symantec found that the malware used was connected to the same hacker-controlled servers as Volgmer,  another piece of malware specifically directed at South Korean targets, and only runs on Korean computers.
  • In all, 11 TB of data was stolen, including movies such as Fury and Annie, and sensitive employee details (payroll, social security details and usernames & passwords).
  • It is reported that Sony kept the passwords in a file called ‘passwords’.
  • Somewhat humorously, it’s been speculated that the attack was in retaliation for upcoming Seth Rogen film ‘The Interview’, which involves a CIA plot to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
