Employees agree to be embedded with microchips at tech company

Many employees at a Wisconsin tech company have agreed to embed a rice-sized microchip into their hand, which would act as a key pass and currency.

  • Many employees at a Wisconsin tech company have agreed to embed a rice-sized microchip into their hand, which would act as a key pass and currency.
  • The RFID chips enable employees to swipe into the building, purchase food at the cafeteria and log onto computers.
  • Three Square Market CEO, Todd Westby, says he and his family will also embed the chips, which were approved for use by the FDA in 2014.
  • The microchips are inserted with a needle between the thumb and forefinger.
  • Todd says this is not a case of ‘Big Brother’ watching, as the chips can only be detected once they are within 6 inches of a proximity reader, and that the chances of them being hacked is “nil to none”.
  • Swedish company Epicenter already offers similar chips to its employees, but Three Square Market is believed to be the first in the USA.
  • Use of the chips is voluntary.
  • Would you agree to use the microchip?
