  • In 1922, Albert Einstein gave a courier his theory on happiness, written on hotel stationery, which has been sold at Jerusalem auction house for $1.56m!
  • It’s reported that a courier arrived at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo to make a delivery, but the Nobel Prize-winning physicist did not have any money for a tip, so he gave the courier 2 notes written in German on the hotel’s stationery.
  • Einstein told the courier: “Maybe if you’re lucky those notes will become much more valuable than just a regular tip”.
  • The 1st note, which sold for $1.56m (£1.19m) read: “A calm and humble life will bring more happiness than the pursuit of success and the constant restlessness that comes with it”.
  • The 2nd note (which sold for ‘just’ $240,000) read: “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”.
  • It’s reported that the seller is the nephew of the courier.
  • Einstein was in Japan at the time to give a lecture following his Nobel Prize for Physics.
  • While known for his scientific endeavours, it seems the man was trying to solve the greatest mystery of all – the meaning of life!
  • What a story!
