A Spanish woman is suing eBay for blocking her account after she started selling plots of land on the sun!
Maria Duran reportedly made her claim to ownership of the sun in 2010 after seeing it done by American entrepreneur Dennis Hope with the moon, Venus, Mars and Mercury.
It’s reported that Maria made her claim to the sun using a loophole in the United Nation’s Outer Space Treaty, which provides that no ‘nation’ may claim ownership of a celestial being, but makes no reference to an ‘individuals’.
Maria started selling plots in 2013, but was shut down by eBay shortly after for breaching its ‘intangible goods’ policy – which basically prevents people from selling things that don’t exist.
Maria was selling plots for €1 (73p) per square meter and has reportedly sold 1,000 plots so far.
Although there are questions regarding Maria’s claim, the upcoming court case will focus on whether she beached eBay’s seller agreement.
