- A Spanish mayor is the first in the country to declare an official nap time for the residents of Ador, Valencia.
- While the proclamation is not mandatory, Mayor Joan Faus Vitoria says it’s merely a suggestion given the high afternoon heat between 2 and 5pm. However, given the town’s agricultural history, it’s reported that many will close shops, take a nap and avoid the midday sun after lunch.
- During the siesta hours, residents must keep quiet and keep children indoors to stop noise travelling through open windows.
- Recent studies show that a 30 minute nap can reverse the hormonal impact of a poor night’s sleep. The study was published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in February.
