• According to professors in Finland and California there are now too many studies, which is making it difficult for researchers to keep on top of publications relevant to their field.
• The findings have been documented in a paper titled “Attention Decay in Science”, in which it is argued that due to the “exponential growth” in the number of scientific papers, the attention that scientists are able to pay to each paper is decreasing each year.
• Further, the professors note that papers are now “peaking” earlier and declining much faster, and receiving fewer citations overall.
