- Aurorities say a prison inmate has racked up over $1million in healthcare costs by eating the jail, including screws, metals, pins and leather from restraints.
- According to the Chicago Tribune, the effecutive director of the jail Cara Smith says Lamont Cathey is “literally eating the jail”, having even consumed parts of his bed, a prison camera and medical equipment.
- It’s reported that Lamont was jailed after he was arrested for breaking and entering into a pizzeria and stealing a sum of money.
- The case highlights the growing problem of mental health in prisons and whether the care provided is adequate.
