- On October 5, students around the world take part in International Walk to School Day to promote safer routes to school, physical activity, pedestrian safety and concern for the environment.
- The event was created in 1997 by Partnership for a Walkable America, which joined with walk to school programs in other regions.
- On the day, children walk, bike, and perhaps even skateboard to school.
- The event is expected to include 5,000 U.S. schools from all 50 states along with participants in 40 countries around the world.
